Jock, even in California that's hot!
I am absolutely staggered that it got that warm (even once) in the UK.
I have lived in California my whole life and still can't get used to the weather! I lived. In the Tahoe area for a few months some years back and that was the most tollerable. If it's over 70*F I hate it. Give me cold any day over the heat. Summer temperatures up near my folks place in the Central Valley can reach 95*F in Spring and 110*F in the Summer! LA is a bit better but still too warm for me.
Also, thank you Jock and Kyle for your tips.

I too have lived off and on in California my whole life. I keep leaving, but end up back here. My parents also live in The Valley (Manteca). Small world. 8^)
In my younger days I loved the heat. The hotter the better, but as I have progressed through life I have come to appreciate the cold. No matter how cold it gets, I can get warm, but with the heat, there comes a point where you can't take off any more clothing, and even the air conditioning can't keep up with the heat.
OP, sorry for hijacking your thread.

Small world indeed. I just drove through Manteca with my dad yesterday wrapping up a road-trip. Yes, the heat is killer. The only reason that people stayed in the Central Valley is the amazingly fertile soil. There isn't a crop evolved that won't flourish there!
