Nice addition to the forum, Steve. I have been an active member at the largest affiliate marketing forum, ABestWeb, for nearly ten years and the same plugin was added a year or so ago over there. They kept it as "Thanks" and it has seen a good bit of use - for exactly the reasons that have been listed here.

    ***.

I like the 'aye' button. It's totally appropriate and (as David said) well-adapted to XMTS. well done, sirs.

Mister Official, please notice on the bottom left of the post box, a little ''thumbs up'' icon with the wording 'aye' next to it.
Please use it with gusto as it is now prefered to the dreaded ''***''.

Will an "Aye" refresh the thread and bring it to the top of the new post listing like a "***" would?

I think this is a great addition. I find it useful on other forums I regularly visit. Thanks mods!

Oh, I don't think *** is going to go away anytime soon. At least, I certainly hope not!

When I was young, still in my single digits, my parents decided to surprise me by getting a dog. A beautiful German Shepherd pup, but a dumber representative of the breed I have not yet seen since. Because she was meant to be an outdoor pet, my father, with my help, built her a beautiful dog house in the back yard. It really wasn't a doghouse, but a dog house, as it was built very much like you would an actual house -- with a raised floor, insulated walls, and a shingled roof. So imagine our surprise and dismay, when we ran into some foul weather, and despite some freezing rain, we looked outside only to see the dog sleeping OUTSIDE, yet immediately BESIDE the dog house we had built. My father even sent me outside to get into the dog house myself, just to show the silly dog how it's "supposed" to be done, and even put her inside just so she would realize that this house was for her... Well, that didn't seem to help very much from my recollection, and for the ensuing months the dog insisted on sleeping next to the house we had built for her, rather than in it.

A member of the rabble suggested a new feature for the forum in the way of a "Like" or "plus-one" button. The poll results seemed to indicate that more members than not, thought it was a good idea, which is why the mods took it seriously and tried to accommodate the request. The question then arose, earlier on in this thread, what this "trial period" was all about, and then some ensuing comments figured that plus-one, as made popular by Kyle would continue to be used, (which is what reminded me of the story with my dog).

Folks, life is all about balance. There should be neither impetus to use this feature and abandon plus-one, nor the opposite. In addition, whether it's an "Aye" or "Like" or any other such instant-click-to-acknowledge button, it shouldn't be seen as a substitute for leaving a comment if you have one. From the moderator's seat, if I see someone typing in "plus-one" just to bump a thread, then yes -- that is an abuse of the new feature (by not using it when it would have been apt to do so)... Likewise, if I see a single post in a thread with no other comments, but a dozen "Ayes" at the bottom, then that too is an abuse of the new feature, and as mods, we shouldn't need to be policing such trivial matters. However that said, if the new "Aye" feature proves to be a hinderance more than a benefit to the forum, for ANY reason, then we will have no qualms to encourage Steve to consider removing it, and Steve himself, being the owner, may be inclined to consider that.

So with that, please carry on -- whether you choose to use the new "Aye" button or not, that's up to you. Just remember that you joined this forum out of a common desire with others to discuss kilts and a kilted lifestyle, while socializing with like-minded people. I don't think anyone joined because there was or wasn't an "Aye" button. As a result, let's not make a big deal out of something that was never meant to become one, and simply just continue with our discussions like we always have.
