Dayton Hamvention Time Again - 2013

Time again for the annual Dayton Hamvention. This is a convention of Amateur Radio Operators. Attendance figures for 2011 were reported at 22,312. Over the years there have been a few in attendance wearing kilts. For the past couple of years only myself and one other member of this group, KC8UFV, have attended in a kilt. I figured we would shake a few others out of the woodwork since the precedence has been set for kilts at Hamvention. We will try again this year. This is my 43rd year of continuous attendance. I know we have other Ham Radio operators that are member of this group. If any of you are coming to Dayton for Hamvention let me know.

I find it amusing that both of us have found our way into pictures and videos. I ran across a video of the flea market where KC8UFV managed to make it in the picture. I also ran across this photo of me from 2010.

I would gladly have worn a kilt to Dayton, but due to work-related scheduling issues I wasn't able to attend this year.

I plan to go to Dayton one of these days, but won't make it this year.

Some year, maybe. Long way to travel but man-oh-man I could probably spend a bunch of money buying boat anchors! (Which would probably be chained to my body before being dumped in the lake after She of Clan Comyn saw them being portered into the manse!)

    Heh.

Wow, that's more than ten times the population of our little city here. I wish I could attend but we have medical appointments that conflict. Maybe next year. Have a great time.

I did not see any other kilts there this year. One annoying thing did happen about four times in the course of a day. Some guy would walk up to me to tell me a story that was some variation of the Scotsman song. Telling it as if he was sure I had never heard it before.

A couple people did thank me for wearing the kilt. I wore one of my USAKilt Semi-Traditional kilts everyday. A couple of people looked at my call sign to see if it started with "GM" or "MM" which is the Amateur Radio prefix for Scotland.

Can't wait for it all to happen again next year.
