What tartan is this???
OK, so here's the deal. I bought a used (vintage) kilt on eBay, and I'm not sure what the tartan is.
Info about the kilt. Looks like field of orange with 4, 3/8 inch green stripes, with one thin yellow stripe. It seems to be made out of 10 oz fabric (obviousley wool) and has 40 pleats.
Now I'd like to find out what tartan it's made of.
Thanks for any help you can give.

' Don't know the tartan but this is the first one I've seen that would go with the orange kilt jacket being discussed on another thread, maybe even with the green sporran shown there too???

I think I bid on that bad boy. Was going to have to take it in though, so hope it went to a better home. So, fit? Good buy? I'm guess it was. Congrats.

Thansk for the help Rocky, I really appreciate it.
As I remember, I was only one of two bidders on it. The size is 42 inch waist an 23 long. I has two small pin holes of moth damage to the front apron, and a bit of work around the back in the fell, about the 22-23 (of 40) pleats. Looks like it was stretched, or something.
Over all a nice kilt.

Sure looks like one of the Allen Brothers tartans. The tartans they invented tend to look like that.

It just came in the mail today, and as I've been examining (and wearing...LOL) it I've noticed sereval things about it.
It measures 23 inched in length, but it's been hemmed. The original length is there (the hem could be removed) and apparently it was originally 2 inches longer when made so it measured 42 waist, and 25 long. Also it has belt loops (or sporran loops) that are 2 inches instead of 3 or 3.5, so, I'm wandering it was an heirloom.
When Rocky responded to the thread (Thank you Rocky) he said that he the tartan was a Cameron Clan Ancient. After that I went to the web, and with his help I looked that up. He was right on!! http://www.kinlochanderson.com/tarta...ht-red/MWS2037
I know that it's comfortable, fits well, and is nice to wear.
It's obviously wool, and about 10 oz. It has 40 pleats, and I guess I should weigh it? It doesn't smell like moth balls, or smoke, or ceder. It's had some obvious repairs over the years, but not really high quality repairs. I'm kind of thinking that it could use (and deserves) a bit of conservation from a pro.
Well, it's origin, and past are a fun conundrum. If you all have any ideas as to the potential age of the kilt, please feel free to let us all know.
It's seen some wear, but seems to be in pretty good shape. I've been wandering if it could have been made in the 1970's? I don't have any thing to base this on, just wandering. The seller said that they thought that it may have been owned by a pipe band member.
Anyway, somethign to think about, and figure on..........??
Thanks.

The tartan is Cameron in the Ancient color scheme. What makes you think it isn't?
