Nothing made me doubt that it was what Rocky said is was. My clan is Gregor, and I simply didn't know. I looked (confirmed it) the tartan on the web, because I thought that I might give the kilt (as a starter kilt) to a friend, and wanted to find out how to get some flashes made for him to go with it. Does that answer you question?????

Before you went back and edited post #9, that post indicated that when the kilt arrived you had looked up some images online and still thought that it might be a "mystery tartan". I was trying to figure out why you thought it was a "mystery" when Rocky had already answered your original question correctly.

When the kilt arrived, I had no idea what the clan tartan was. That was my motivation for posting. Some times when I write something, and then re-read it, I can see that my thoughts weren't as clear as I'd have liked them to be. Sorry for any confusion.
Thanks to every one for their help, and comments. The contributors to the thread have helped me learn every thing that I think that I can (we can) about this kilt. If I knew how to "close" the thread I'd do so......I can't seem to remember where that information is located on the site.
So, thanks again for your contributions, and help....

It is one of the four basic Cameron Tartans. An excerpt from the Cameron website is shown below -
1) Basic Clan Cameron: This sixteen green squares upon a red background sett, with a bright yellow bordering, is for general use by all members of Clan Cameron. If one tartan had to be singled out for general use by Camerons worldwide, Basic Clan Cameron would be the one. As is the case with most clan tartans, this is one from the Vestiarium of Scoticum in 1834, which was accepted by the then Lochiel. It very much resembles an old red and green square sett in the West Highlands Museum in Fort William, although there are some variations.
The other Cameron tartans are -
Cameron of Lochiel
Cameron of Erracht
Cameron Hunting
Hope this helps.

Grizzly, that's some great information, and thanks. In school I rowed 8's and our cox's was a "Cameron". It's a good looking thing, and as stated in about post # 4 (?) it would go good with the orange PC that was (and maybe still is) on eBay.
Thanks again for your help, and info.

Stan, my band wears the Ancient MacGregor tartan, and those colours in your new kilt look very similar to those colours in our kilt. You'd appreciate the look I'm sure.

How very cool. I'm not really used to seeing many orange based tartans, and I think it's really interesting. I'm so used to seeing tartans that are red, blue or green based that I think that the orange is kind of unusual.
Eric, thanks again for the info.

Red-based tartans, when woven in the Ancient color scheme, are orange.
Here is the Cameron tartan in the modern colors:

Personally I am a huge fan of the ancient colours (except the ancient green Scott oddly enough). And in the North East and Southern Ontario, we stand out as most bands in our area wear a variety of greens and blues.
