That, I think, is what many people miss when discussing anything not-quite-mainstream. "Do you think you're cool?" or "you're just trying to get attention*." Well, no, I'm just wearing what I like, as you are. It's just that mine's different from yours. I'd actually rather people leave me alone, thanks. I don't especially wish to discuss the length of my hair, my jewelry, my kilt hose, etc., even if they ARE different from what people are used to seeing. (And unless you're my employer or I'm at your event, my appearance is really not up for discussion or debate, thanks. I probably don't like what you're wearing, either, but it's really not my problem nor my business.)
*And as it seems this is a common reaction from the public to seeing someone wearing a kilt, you'd think people around here would not trot it out to refer to body mods...
