    2. Kingussie pleats do have a "direction," in fact they have two True Kingussie pleating is knife pleats that face forward from either side of center rear. Reverse K has knife pleats facing rearward to either side of center rear. Plenty of illlustrations here if you need a visual, just search the term.
I'm sorry, Sydnie, I was actually thinking of box pleats, and got confused in my old age. You are right about Kingussie pleats, of course. My second question still holds, when normal pleating is viewed from the rear, is it forward towards the left, or forward towards the right? Does it truly make a difference?

I always use garters but flashes only for formal wear. For casual day wear, having the kilt to simply replace jeans or shorts, I find them too dressed up. I have the same attitude regarding a kilt pin, by the way.

If 2.5 yards weighs nearly 22 oz then it isn't 10 oz to the yard - it is more like 8.75 oz - which is very lightweight indeed and rather more suited to scarves than kilts.

I do have some kilts in fabrics about that weight, but I only ever wear them over a long tunic as they fly so very easily.

I would really recommend something heavier - or the addition of net curtain weighting cord along the lower edge.

I think I have pretty much decided the fabric is not heavy enough. Too back because it is a cool tartan. Ah well, need to buckle down and get pleating on the pieces I have in the kilt waiting room.

Next: Fraser Hunting Weathered box pleat I think.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

In my opinion 10 oz wool is too light, I have one and, unlike my other kilts which are heavier, I don't trust it in strong breezes as it lifts easily. It and those shown in the posted replies don't hang nearly as well as heavier ones around the rear mainly because their pleats tend to go all over the ship and you can see this pictured on what appear to be quite new kilts.
