And here is a monument for Zennor churchyard (between St Ives and Land's End). There's a number of monuments to the last person who spoke Cornish and here is John Davey. (I've worked out how to do thumbnails. It's a bit small to read the text though.)

By the church at Zennor is this pub, named in honour of OC's mining forebears (It is the right way up on Photocuket).
Someone asked about St Michael's Mount. Here it is through utterly characteristic Cornish drizzle:

That's nice. My thumbnail of the Tinners' Arms pub sign has righted itself.
Scones and chudleighs. Remembering my childhood these were two very different vehicles for clotted cream and jam. My mum's scones were homemade, made with baking powder, cut out with a pastry cutter and lightly baked. They were close textured, but slightly moist, somewhere between dough and pastry. They can be made (I've learnt) on a griddle. Presumably they resemble the soda breads of Ireland. Because they had a flat top, they could be cut in two and both halves lay flat.
Chudleighs were shop bought and were really a commercial bun with a rounded glazed top. Frankly they had as much texture as Mother's Pride (a commercial sliced loaf) only not so damp. They must have been baked in a batch because they sides were soft, where they joined to the next bun in the oven. They didn't taste of much. Presumably in my granny's childhood the name "Chudleigh" (there's a village in South Devon with the name) referred to a home baked style dough bun.

Hi Jonathan, Now moving to Lizard village in Two weeks time.If you come down this way off season, after the kids go back to school, Check out the cost of staying in Lizard Youth Hostel by Joining as a single or family member and go self catering with your own room.
Google YHA.
I found a history of the prewar youth hostels in the lounge. The book is now in the office.Just ask for it.
I was down at the hostel several times last year, and left the day befor christmas eve.
The first point of my theme is that there were two prewar photos of Kilties in a Welsh Hostel.
I returned to the hostel in March as a kiltie from Dorset.I was a fultime kiltie at the hostel in my Argyle jacket.
I have been round Cornwall from Gollant,An hours Drive west of Plymouth, right round to Boscastle , North East of Padstow.
All the hostels are old buildings and the staff are kilt friendly.
The guests come from all over the world to do bits of the South West Coastal Path.About 630 miles long.
Some walk from hostel to hostel. Some bus out of the hostel and walk back. Some do the Lands End John O'Groats Lands end to Scotland cycle Ride. Twelve to sixteen Days.
This thread is not going where I started from , but to close, I was in the lounge of a Cornish Hostel and a Welshman said to me infront of the Amercans, the Australians and the Germans, "why are you wearing the Kilt, Rod ? "
My reply was " Photos in the book on the history of the Youth Hostels Association showed that the kilt was worn in Hostels before the War, and I was carrying on an old British Tradition."
This happened in every Hostel and opened up a series of Cornish Heritage Discussions.
I did also visit the House which was the business adress for Cornovi Kilts, the Cornish Kilt suppliers.
Suggest the Gaggle Google the Webb Sites and come back to this Cornish thread, as we are talking what is called Proper Cornish.
This is not the way other Nations think.
I am migrating South West and Others are coming back to visit their Roots .Kilt On . Roddy

My quick comment is that Cornovi show more than one Cornish kilt.
Somewhere I have seen Information on the Administration in the Design of the Cornish Tartans.
This thread Has been picked up once. There is more information if the gaggle keep Googling.
As soon as one gets into a theme the thread splits.
We have come back with the Church Pews, the origans of the Cornish Kilt, as claimed by the Cornish, the beautiful new Cornish Tartan, the Original Black Cornish Tartan made in Glasgow.,and the Cornish Sporran with the Cornish Badge with its studs, the Cornish Miners, Sea Trade, Fishing, Cornish Mining Migration to Canada and Minossota...(Sorry Spelling without a reference).3Ms Company. Visual Aids Systems. Kilt On Roddy
