    Question Modify costume kilt

I thinking of modifying a costume kilt to make it fit correctly.

My question is: is it worth it to add buckles and to sew at the inside of the pleat to make it fit the sett, even with the pleat not always on sett?

Or am I wasting my time and need to make a new one?

If you have identified it as a costume then the material is probably not very high quality and chances are the "sett" is not a real or true tartan. Save some time and effort, go get some good tartan fabric and sew it up. You'll get something you'll be proud to wear in public.

Last year I had spent hours converting a cheap Trip kilt I found at a Savers, to use as a kilted zombie costume.

I extended the length, removed the silly pockets, added leather belt loops, tattered and distressed it.

Over all it looked OK in dim lighting, but it still was more skirt than kilt, due to the fake sewn pleats.

This year I am ordering a Stillwater Thrifty kilt, distress it... a lil' blood and I'm good.
Shipped for around $35, I wish I would have done it last season before wasting all the time I did.

I have come to.the conclusion, that I will end up using the costume kilt for something else.
Maybe for.making one for the dog?
