Royal Baby Question
So... will Kate's baby, a prince(ss) technically outrank his/her Mommy, a Duchess? Help me out with this, folks! I know we have some very well-informed members here who will have a definitive answer.

No. Kate is styled Duchess of Cambridge, but is actually a princess.

I was of the understanding that her full title is: Her Royal Highness Princess William,Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn (Scotland), Baroness Carrickfergus(Ireland).
She's also an honourary Canadian Ranger... which in my books makes her top of the world...lol

The new baby will be third in line to the throne whether its a boy or a girl. Kate cannot rule in her own right even if something happened to William, she will only be Queen when William is King.

If Kate is a princess, and William is a prince, then their child will be a princess or prince, and so will be of equal rank to her/his parents, no?

When given a choice, most people will choose.

Kate is a Princess because she accepted the title when marrying Prince William. She doesn't as far as I am aware automatically become one. Camilla was similar when she married Charles, the royal household were concerned that the public would not accept another princess to rival Diana, so I believe it was Charles who persuaded her to accept the Duchess of Cornwall title which the public would more readily accept.
The new baby as the son of a Royal Prince will be a Royal Prince, but don't confuse order of Royal Rank with the Order of Succession. There are quite a few royal princes but some are now quite remote on succession lines.

And in day to day affairs, the words "Because I'm your mother, that's why!" trumps "but I'm a Prince" ever single day.

Grizzly, not all sons of Princes of the Blood Royal are princes. The sons of HRH Prince Richard Duke of Gloucester, HRH Prince Edward Duke of Kent, and HRH Prince Michael of Kent are not princes. The eldest child of the Duke of Cambridge is a Prince because of the Letters Patent of 1917.

Well, we're delighted to welcome the tiny Prince Royal to this warped planet. I want to see him in his first Balmoral Tartan kilt!
