Having looked at the manual, it would seem that they are only hose tops, but they do compliment the kilt rather nicely.

I knew that David. But hose tops aren't really a civvy thing. They only go with spats. Anyway, if the tops can be knit in the tartan then surely the socks can too. I reckon they'd look amazing.

I agree EB, such tartan hose would look amazing. But who would/could do such a thing?

From the Army Dress manual they look to be a 5 colour Argyll kilt hose (tops). I can find a supplier for 4 colour full kilt hose @ US$141.00 but that is all.

Love the tartan, and would be interested were it not for just purchasing 5yrds/DW of the R'Lyeh Sett tartan...so my tartan budget is capped out for this year ![Sad](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
Great looking kilt tho.

Hi all, a quick update. I dropped in to see Doug at the Booval shop on Friday. He showed me a couple of offcuts - one of the tartan as originally designed and the second as woven for the Army. The essential difference to my eyes was the blue stripe in the original design is a light blue, almost a sky blue, where the Army version is a darker blue. Doug is asking Strathmore to weave the original designer's light blue version. I omitted to take a photo (I left my brains at home that day). I will try to get back to Booval again next week to get a photo to post so that I can show you all. All the best, John
