I'm a mid to bottom of the knee guy too. I've taken my "cue" from the photos that I've seen from kilt makers. MacGregor and McDuff, Scotweb, and such. For me, the attached photos says it all.........

Your choices are yours to make of that there is no arguement, but just so you know, the gentleman that you have chosen as an example is exactly the chap that you should be careful with when following his kilt attire choices. I am not saying that you should not, I would not presume to, but I am saying that well known film stars, even Scottish ones, do not necessarily make the right choices.

As an example would you wear a drop down tie with a tuxedo? No? Well the gentleman in your picture is! Well OK a Prince Charlie, which is a tuxedo equivelant. So now would you follow his example with kilt height? You would? OK its your choice.

Saw this posted on Facebook (if it's on there then it's got to be... well, I don't know... anyway!)

A Guide To Proper Kilt Length
If your kilt is above the knee...
    ...You are a boy.
If your kilt is at the knee...
    ...You are a man.
If your kilt is below the knee...
    ...You are a liar!

The truth is, I like my kilts to fall right to the top of the knee cap.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. "The Last Highlander" Sara Fraser
