Argyle Jacket
Ok, do I really need one of these? I know that they look way better with a kilt that a regular suit jacket, but how often will a use this. Don't get me wrong it is essentially purchased in my mind, just looking for justification is spending the cash needed. Any comments

"Do I really need one?" How many things do we really need? Isn't it more of a question of 'do I really want one'? My father told me years ago, "if it's for business you need to justify the expense, if it's just something you want that's all the justification you really need". If you want one so you can look a bit dressier for special occasions then there is no substitution that will work as well. So... do you want one????

Yes, definitely, you need one! But make sure you order an ill fitting one, and then pass it on to your good buddy Rufus so that you can get one that fits perfectly.
Hint, hint, hint...

jacket...
Colin,
I would advise so..."saxon" jackets, which are cut for trousers, hide the pleats in a kilt and take away that "swing" that women love when they watch a kilted lad from behind.
You could always get a charcoal day jacket which would work for both day and evening events wear a bit more formality is called for, and it might be cheaper -- be sure to get the vest to go with it, though.
Cheers!

Way to go, Colin! I bought mine last year and wear it more than I ever wore a suite or a blazer. Once you get it and see just how fabulous it makes you look, you'll wear it surprisingly often. You won't regret it for sure. Of course you realize that after you get it on and look down, you'll find yourself shopping for a nice pair of ghillie brogues. 8)

I will be buying from a local shop, as their are comparable with the net shops, except that I won't have to pay duty or shipping charges. Unfortunately black is the only colour they carry. That's ok with me. I would love to get a vest to go with it, but have a hard time thinking about $100 for a vest. Not when I can go to a tuxedo shop and get one for under $100 and just add buttons. Is that so wrong?

Ah nuts, you're on to me!
As my grandfather used to say,
"If wishes were fishes, we'd have a fish fry.
If cat poop was pudding, we'd eat 'til we died."
I really don't know what that means, but I thought it fit the bill here.

Colin,
I am actually doing it in the reverse order. I have ordered a vest and I will added the jacket later. I have opted for a charcoal grey argyll with the antique silver buttons to give it that touch of tradition.
Having said that I am a 'vest person'. I have two leather, one wool, and two knit, with one on order.
