Ah, yes.
As my father is from Northern Ireland and very likely also descended from Scottish "planters" then it's probably to assume that I have more Scottish blood than Irish blood!

Hello from another McCollum descendant! My McCollums have been in the United States for 300+ years as best as I can tell.

We're probably related then...10th cousins, three times removed or something similar!

Yes we probably are!
I have done documented research back to Daniel McCollum; Birth 1750 in New Jersey, USA - Death 1832 in Posey, Indiana, USA
I think he was the grandson of John "Old John" Isaac McCollum; Birth 1657 in Poltollach, Craignish, Argyll, Scotland - Death 18 Apr 1760 in Basking Ridge, Somerset, New Jersey, USA
A genealogists work is never done!

Ok, impressive! I've only been able to research back to 1901. Not helped though by a) not living in Ireland and b) Irish genealogical records being rather sparse at times.

Rather embarrassing, but a conversation with my mother about her family, followed by a few clicks online and I have already traced the family back to 1748...all in Ireland, although it is a given fact that due to the family being staunchly Presbyterian until the very early 20th century, they were definitely Scottish "planters" in Ulster. So it seems I have a definite claim to that MacCallum tartan!
