Got my first Kilt

Greetings, welcome, and a big Thank You for your service.

Kilt, belt, buckle, sporran, sporran chain, flashes -- all doing great.

For the kilt, I'd suggest wearing it higher up at your navel (I can say navel to an Army man, can't I

). Aim for the bottom of the kilt being at or near the top of your knees.

As for a shirt, pretty much anything goes except for maybe a clashing tartan/plaid. I've worn t-shirts with my US Army kilt. I've also worn dress shirts with and without ties. You'll find much advice on here as to the color to wear. I occasionally match my hose to my shirt (or vice-versa) - so black would definitely be good. I've also worn shirts which pick up the colors of the kilt -- particularly the stripes instead of the base color. This leads to a really nice (but not too matchy-matchy) effect.

Be sure and take some pics on your first outing (and any others). Around here: If you don't have a picture, it didn't happen

Thanks to everyone for the feedback and tips. I'll definitely be following them. I still got a couple months left till I'm back in the States but I'll post pictures and update everyone when I go on my first real outing in a kilt, and first outing to a bar in general since ill be 21 soon =D

Appreciate all the help, I'll certainly be staying on the site.

Welcome... and thank you for you dedication and service.

Looking good, just hoist it up a few inches, like others have suggested.
You could cinch up your sporran chain a bit, hanging that low it tends to flop around.
And you may want to look into a leather sporran belt, rather than a chain, chains tend to bur fabric.

Casual wear: Any T-shirt will work, and black boots.
Do you have your Infantry shirt in dark green or black? Double pride.

Dress: Button up, hose and your spit shined dress shoes will work.

Tons of knowledge to be had here... picking Xmarks members brains is a handy thing.

Congrats on your kilt and welcome aboard.
The tartan looks great it's just surrounded with hideous camouflage, maybe a nice Woodland MARPAT cammo would be better. Just kidding! Semper Fi!
