New Kilt and Jacket
Still waiting for the 8yd/wool kilt, but a couple of other bits have
arrived.
Up until now, I've generally worn kilts at folk festivals or for busking,
but I'm thinking about branching out, so I've been thinking about
a jacket that would work casually -- buy-a-kilt had a reasonably
priced tweed jacket. (I got one at the end of a lot and a great deal)
The current ones are still about 150 GBP. It's a well made jacket.
OK, it was made in Eastern Europe instead of Scotland -- Hey I'd
love a Scottish made Harris tweed Argyll or Crail jacket but the
wallet said nay .
My upper arms are a bit big - I go to the gym 3 times/week so it's
a bit tight in the upper arm - not too tight for normal wear, but
maybe a bit tight for dancing or playing a guitar. I'll still be able to
play, but I'll notice a bit of binding.
Also. if you get one, I'd suggest that for many moving up one size from
what you normally wear may be a good idea.
The kilt is also from B-a-K, a Stewart Black 8yd budget kilt. I'm a
MacGregor and they don't have that sett, unfortunately. Stewart
Black was the universal in a colour scheme that I liked. When it
arrived it had been folded as for hanging, then folded in half at
the waist and then folded in half lengthwise. For any normal kilt
this would have made a complete mess of the pleats. When I pulled
it out and hung it up it wasn't perfect, but it was acceptable for
a non-wool kilt. I may try closing the bathroom door the next time
that I shower and leave the exhaust fan off so it gets steamy and
hang it in the steam -- I think that this may sort it out.
The swing seems good and the pleat to the sett is fairly close.
For a kilt that cost less than $100 it is brilliant value.
TANSTAFL (There ain't no such thing as a free lunch)
I wanted a kilt for hot weather and for times when I did not
want to risk messing up a good kilt - and one that looked like
a kilt and not a school skirt - I got exactly what I wanted.
And a third note -- several have suggested that a skivvey
or turtleneck with a jacket is a good semi-casual look. I've
looked around here in Melbourne, but my guess is that the
"fashion police" have decreed that they are out of fashion
at the moment. So I couldn't find any. I looked at Lands End
and found several options. (They're my go-to place for daggy
fashions like cargo pants. As an aside, is it just me or do most
blokes prefer what is comfortable/practical over the current
fashion, whatever that may be?)
Pictures to follow

Nice
And it would be great if it ever got cold here -- but is doesn't
(I don't consider the general Melbourne Winter temperatures
to be cold - cold is -20C or lower - not 10C)
So what I'm getting is cotton - that I can wear for 3 seasons
But that wool would be nice - and the look would be great.
(And it's probably Aussie wool as a bonus)
