kilt and hot weather. Weekend festival attire.

I am heading off to my local Highland games in Fergus later today and am wondering about proper attire. I have a couple ot kilts, and know that the kilt itself is not all that bad to wear. I'd have no problem with wearing a plain tshirt or short sleeve button shirt. My question comes to hose/garters. Is it just wrong to skip wearing them in the blazing hot sun? Now your hose gives you somewhere to put your Sgians Dubh, but i am willing to forgo that in the sake of staying cool. I don't know what is worse, a badly sweating dehydrated Scott or a wrongly dress one?

Any feedback is appreciated.

I'm in the "wear the hose or don't wear the kilt" brigade. That said, my hose is a wool/cotton blend and I've never had a problem with the heat here, up to 40 degrees Celsius (a tad over 100 degrees F) and I'm originally from the UK. The knit of the hose seems to provide an insulation layer. But that's just me, your mileage may vary!

I have to agree: I'm in the same brigade. I have never cared for the scrunched down look, and I never do that. I do wear a thinner pair of wool socks once in a while, but I really don't find hose very uncomfortable. I have worn hiking socks or boot socks as long as they looked like kilt hose, but no of late and never in a dressy situation. I do wear a light cotton shirt, usually a khaki uniform styled shirt because it's cool and comfortable, and I really like the look.

A man my age should not wear shirts without collars (tee shirts) or non-leather shoes unless he's working out. A wool kilt (unless it's a 22 oz monster like my Gordon from WPG) will not be overly hot unless in direct sun, and then you'd be hot if you were naked. ( And very ugly in my case!)

In the deep south, we know about hot and humid, and I don't find hose uncomfortable unless they're quite heavy. And I only wear very heavy hose in the coldest of winter days.
