The jerk must be feeling good, knowing "he told you!" Sad when folks are so smug and so wrong at the same time.

Like most folks, I'm occasionally tempted to offer an opinion. I usually suppress that temptation by recalling the many and varied helpings of crow I've been forced to eat over the years.

Unfortunately, there is no peak of stupidity, it goes on and on. Someone calls a kilt a dress the next one think trousers were the only attire worn by men in history and he is a journalist who should know better. The best ones are those who don't pester you with their foolishness. At least they have manners.

That was my take on it too; more specifically, the idea that only Scottish clan tartans (there are Irish clans too) are authentic.

What a **sser! If it's made with threads of different colours matching on the weft and weave it's a tartan. It doesn't have to be Scottish.

Unless it's a Welsh tartan. They don't match warp- and weft-wise.

Whilst there are certainly Irish clans, there are not really any Irish clan tartans, only Irish family name tartans, as I've never heard of an Irish chief choosing to recognise or not recognise a tartan. Hair splitting, I suppose. If I were ever to obtain a kilt in the Callaghan tartan I'd probably say it was my clan tartan, but mainly to avoid getting into complications, i.e. for the same reason that someone said you should just say "Wicklow".

You could say it's our clan tartan.

Most interesting, there are so many self-proclaimed experts ready to proclaim their expertise, even when their opinions are not solicited.

    How boorish.
