Conflict of interest

On September 6, Scotland and Belgium will play against each other in a soccer match for the qualification for the world championship in 2014 in Brazil. Although I am not a great soccer fan, as a Belgian, I will need to find out how I will deal with the situation. Will I wear a kilt and a t-shirt with the Belgian colors?

This seems a very interesting dillema ! A soccer match usually is witnessed by great crowds who all identify themselves with "their" teams. So someone in Kilt with a Belgian tricolore T shirt would be very confusing !!! You risk to attract the wrath of either of the fanclubs in case they loose. I'm affraid the proper thing to do is to go either fully for the Scots, thus wearing your Scottish attire, or you go fully for the Belgian team, thus leaving ur Kilt at home. Off course, watching the match on TV would be an alternative
Or maybe you won't be the only Belgian in Kilt, sitting on the Belgian side !!! Wouldn't that be fun !!!

Anyhow, whatever you may decide, i wish u lots and lots of fun !

Conflicts of interest inevitably happen from time to time - such as when Wales plays Scotland in the Six Nations for example.

Well, if you're Welsh, the rules are simple.

If Wales are playing, you support them.
if Wales are not playing, but England are, you support whoever is playing against them. Unless its France.

[i don't actually follow any sport, sothis is entirely for humour value].

P.S. nothing would persuade me to wear a kilt in Cardiff when Wales are at home to Scotland.

I think you are in more danger of wrath and repercussions when they get tight, which is quite likely given the Scottish fans love of the bottle, and the supremely excellent, and strong, beers available in Belgium.

I would wear the Kilt. As you will know, Flanders has its own tartan and I have no doubt the Flemmings will be supporting Belgium!

In any case the Tartan Army is usually one of the heaviest drinking and happy bunch you can find - they are usually peaceable even when completely drunk. Look at the pics of clearing up Trafalgar Square the day after the recent defeat by England. There were apparently 10,000 empty tins of beer in the square!!

The game is in Glasgow. None of the locals will have a problem with someone wearing a kilt and a belgium top. I have frequently worn a kilt and Ireland top together and never had a problem. My Aunt is Dutch but married to my Glaswegian uncle and they frequently have worn a combination of both countries national dress at games here and there.

Unless Belgian fans are very touchy, there won't be a problem. The Tartan Army are about the friendliest bunch of football fans anywhere.
