When I went to the Gathering of the Clans in Edinburgh in '09 I had no problem with wearing my skian Dhu in the Scottish Parliament but my Dad had to hand in his small Swiss Army knife; when I offered up my SD to the Security Officer he was most insistent that I wore it as it was part of the Scottish outfit and as long as I didn't run amok with it then it was perfectly OK for me to keep it with me.

I wonder how many of the people who signed this petition actually have any intentions of attending Bannockburn.
Speaking as a Scottish Armiger who will be hosting a tent at Bannockburn I am only too well aware of the problems of knife crime in Scotland and will certainly NOT be signing this petition, nor do I intend to wear a sgian-dhu at Bannockburn.
Alex - if my vacation plans work out, I'll be attending the Bannockburn festival at Stirling Castle. I'll not bring my sgian-duhs along with me to be on the safe side. Are there other concerns we need to be aware of? I assume all other kilt attire will be OK.

It seems the organisers have now relented on this and will now allow you to wear your sgian-dhu on site. Looking forward to seeing you at Bannockburn next year.

Perfect! I'll be in whisky school the week before in Campbeltown and then traveling to Stirling for the weekend festivities. I'll swing by your tent to meet you Alex!
