    Cotton Poly Vs. Poly Vis

Any comments on the differences in these 2 fabrics? Do they wear similarly? Weight? Swish?
I like the Smith Dress Gray (Cotton Poly) but I know I'd prefer PV... but if it is close to Cotton Poly then I am all set.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

    Hi Atticus,

I have a kilt made of each of the materials, actually, one is a wool blend. Personally, I like to poly vis.

I like it for durability and toughness, it's coated with teflon so marks such as coffee stains or spills wipe off easily.
    It's easy to care for.

Sure it's not in the same league for quality as pure Scottish wool, but it's a great substitute.

Have you read through the info about which kilt is right for you?

The certain Smith Dress Gray that you're talking about is VERY soft. It's not as rigid as some of the Cotton-Polys out there. It's also a tighter weave than some of the cheap ones. There's enough in the shop to make one heck of a deep pleated kilt too.

Don't be swayed away from getting it based on the Cotton-Poly designation. This bolt of material is real nice.

I just checked our inventory and we're pretty much out of the "smith dress gray". The material is closer to a full coton and while it is a tighter weave, it's not very thick. It will not "swish" NEARLY as good as any PV. Most cotton poly materials are much lighter than PV. CP isn't bad if you just want a casual or Philabeg... something light to wear around...

If you like the "dressy look" of the "Smith Dress Gray", take a look at Thompson (black/white/gray with a red stripe). I made one for myself and it looks GREAT with a black kilt jacket. Hope this helps! If you have any more questions, call us at the shop!
