    Squadron Insignia Sporran

I have been thinking about getting a sporran with my war service squadron insignia for some time. I already have an Eagle, Globe and Anchor sporran from Donnie and I love it! It's on the "custom" page of his website. Anyway, we finished discussing the design and I pulled the trigger yesterday.

That is the image for Marine Attack Squadron 211, the Wake Island Avengers. They are the oldest still active Marine Aviation Squadron. The beast is a Tasmanian Devil, and the island is Wake Island.

Donnie is going to do the yellow background in light tan. I am very excited.

This could start a trend. I would not mind a sporran with the RAF insignia on it.

    Good idea.

Just one thing on the caricature of the Tassie Devil, it looks more like a lion to me.

They might be warriors, but some old ones forget their history. From the 211 website "Marine Attack Squadron 211 began its illustrious history as VF Squadron 4M on January 1, 1937. The Squadron adopted the plunging lion as its insignia a few months later, "because the swift and destructive rush of the King of east well represents the attack of a Fighting Squadron".

Haven't forgotten - the symbolism of the lion/devil has gone back and forth through the squadron's history. In WW2 and in Vietnam, we said it was a Devil, symbolizing fierceness and our connection with our Australian brothers.

The Tassie devil is certainly a fierce one Geoff. All the best with the sporran anyways. I am sure it will look a treat when finished.

    It's on its way!

The ruff still looks like a Tassie ruff, not a lion's mane to me, but either way, VERY cool. I love Donnie's work.

Now all you need is a new pair of hose with the stripes of your service bar worked into the cuff.
