    An added bonus

I have spent many hours combing through the archives here, looking for ideas and advice. Last night I came across a post that ended an almost 50 year search.
When I graduated from Queen's University in Kingston Ontario in 1964, the generally accepted school tie had four stripes (red for arts faculty, hold for engineering, blue for medicine and green for forestry). Then the tie switched to one with t he school crest. I always loved the striped tie and have looked for that combination ever since.
Imagine my delight to find that it is identical to the Calgary Highlanders Regimental tie! I sent an email to their shop to see if I can buy two online. If not, a friend has a daughter working in Calgary that can buy it for me.
The tie will work beautifully with my Hunting Robertson kilt (under a vest or sweater) and has a lot of meaning for me. I am thrilled!

    Very cool!

Being an American, school ties have an interesting British Old World charm. I didn't know that the tradition also exists in Canada.

I graduated from an American university, and if our school had a tie, I never saw one or heard of one. The shop at campus might sell a variety of ties with different permutations of the school's logo on them, but none of them are "school ties" in the British sense (a single recognised official design) as far as I know.

Here's the online shop for West Virginia University. Notice the variety of neckties, none of them like the classic British striped school ties

I have a nice silver-white and maroon tie from my alma mater, Eastern Kentucky University. It's fairly similar to the traditional British school tie.

Congratulations, War dog, on your find.
