    Country Socks?

What would be the difference between country socks and kilt hose? They appear to my un-trained eyes to be hose worn with trousers. Could one of you more educated kilties shed some light on the subject?

I have no idea. When I get my copy of "so you decided to wear the kilt" maybe there will be an explanation of the two in there. If so, I'll respond again.

I happen to wear and own both Country Hunting Socks and Kilt Hose. The hunting socks were made to be worn with hunting Breeks, plus 2's and plus 4's. They do come up the calf and fold over allowing for garter ties. Kilt hose to me tend to be a bit more ornate and have a thicker top where you fold it down. Even saying this you find House of Cheviot selling their socks on both kilt and hunting sites. So bottom line they are interchangeable. I have found some unique hunting socks in tweed, red marl and other colors. These have a colored stripe at the fold down that is visable.

I wear both with my kilts depending on what else I am wearing and I also wear them with my breeks. When I do wear pants they are usually breeks so the taller socks/hose completes the outift. Good luck sorting it out, Im sure there are many more knowledgable people here than me. For me it is what goes with the rest of the outfit and sometimes the hunting socks fit the bill.

Ah ha! Thank you Paul, you nailed it right on the head. Breeks, I had no idea. I was trying to figure out how those models were tucking so much tweed in there socks. A whole other world of men's wear I had no idea about.

I have some HoC hose from the country socks line because the colors I wanted weren't available as kilt hose.

What I have found in my size is the country socks are longer, so I have to fold the tops into an M shape, where the kilt hose are a bit shorter, i just fold the tops over once on those.

Although they are fairly interchangeable these days, hunting socks are designed to be longer than kilt hose.
