Is that the kilt? Looks rather sombre in that photo. I'd brighten up my outfit by using colourful hose with that kilt, red or claret (it's amazing how many tartans look great with claret hose).

Oh here I found a bigger brighter photo on the Heritage of Scotland site... I'm sure they won't mind the free advertising

Much nicer colours here! A bit of a challenge to find hose that contrast nicely, that "ring" with the kilt... I might go with red or perhaps yellow.

White hose (sad face) tartan flashes (sad face) ... I myself wouldn't go that route.

Yikes! Here's the whole thing... white hose, tartan flashes, ruche tie, belt peeking out from under the waistcoat, sgian in the wrong sock... this is the very look I would avoid.

If it's a Christmas party, go with a Christmas tie. I must have a dozen different Christmas ties, have a completely separate tie rack for them. Celebrate the holiday, commercialism be darned. It's a Christmas party for heaven's sake! Enjoy it!

What if the lad was left handed? Would that excuse the sgian being in the wrong sock?

Good looking Kid, but I always wonder about those that wind their laces all the way up their legs like ballet shoes. Twist 5 to 6 times in front, then 2 to 3 times in back and back 'round front with a regular old bow. Easy!
Only 9 notes. How hard could it be?

But in, like, you know, actual kilt hose--not baseball sox.

Indeed, yellow or mustard hose as a complementary colour to purple/violet. I see what you are getting at, Richard.
