    Helicopter crash in Glasgow

News is just on the TV that a police helicopter has crashed onto the roof of a Glasgow pub, The Clutha where a band was performing.

There is no news of casualties yet, but they are expected - people are trapped inside as the roof and ceilings have fallen. Many people did escape, though some were injured and had to be helped to get out by a chain of people which formed to assist.

this is on all the news reports here as well. It appears so far as though there have been no fatalities. Hopefully that will remain the situation.

There was no explosion nor fire - first thoughts are that there was a catastrophic failure in the helicopter's engine, so the aircraft came down fairly under control, trying to find a safe place to crash land but hit the roof and only after a few moments did it collapse and fall into the pub.

I saw this on CNN earlier. Very sad. Good thoughts and positive energy to those involved.

I won't say much more than this at the moment, but the one death is just what has been confirmed so far (believed to be the pilot). We are imminently expecting official reports of further deaths and some very severe injuries. The pub in question is one I frequent regularly, and I expect to hear of the loss or severe injury of people I know.

I am glad to read of xmarkers support today because we are all stunned. The Clutha is a real 'heart of Glasgow' pub and there would barely be anyone I know who has never been in it before. The effect on the people of Glasgow today is visible on their faces.
