I remember well the day he was released from prison. I was in my first year of law school and immediately wrote a letter to a friend of mine about how great the day was. A great man who, against the odds, survived to facilitate great change in this world. Thanks for the link.

I also remember the day he was released. I recall even more clearly the day in 1998 when I was visiting Capetown and spoke to an older black man. He said he had been a South African for 65 years but had never been allowed to vote until 1994. (It was that election that made Mandela the first black president.) The memory of that proud man still brings tears to me eyes.
