    I have one of those as well. The difference is that the laces are on the inside of the arm and these are worn on both forearms.

    I have several bracers left over from my re-enactment days. one difference between bracers and archery arm guards is the archery ones are often plain and un-armoured. I have seen an archer use a lovely pair of bracers with engraved brass plates. Only problem was when the string caught on one of the plates, cut the string and sent the arrow off to the side. The ones you've got your son wouldn't have caused problems like this for the guy...
