I noticed this thread pop up at a good time. My eldest son had a taste of my newest bottle, Balvenie DoubleWood 12 on Christmas day. I did not know he had taken to drinking Scotch. We got to talking and agreed to have a tasting on New Years Eve. My question is this; what would be a good next bottle(s) to add to this line up for the event?

Glenlivet 12
Glenfiddich 12 & 15
Balvenie DoubleWood 12
Speyside 12
Just what is on hand. Would like at least 1-2 more for the tasting.

Thanks,
Greg
Balvenie DoubleWood is the absolute Nectar Of The Gods....and I'm saying that as a hard-core Islay Malt Peat Freak. As for a Next Bottle, an affordable "sweet peat" would be good--either Ardmore (a more-peaty-than-usual Highland Malt) or--if you can get your hands on it--Finlaggan, a young, but not too young, anonymous Islay (some say Lagavulin, some say Laphroig). Either bottle will send him well on his way. As the TV sitcom character (Rip Torn, "Larry Sanders") beautifully said, when you die and go to Heaven and meet your Maker...THIS is what you'll smell on his breath (i.e., not corn, not rye, not sugar cane, not rice, not potatoes.....Well-Peated Barley Malt, Dammit!)
