Thread approved, but moved to "Weapons as Kilt Accessories" Forum. (The former forum is that of an advertiser for discussion of his product. I believe that this forum is a better "fit.")

Hi macmac, would you be able to get a close up photo of the mark as I have 4 TE marks and one is mighty close to looking like a B

    Thanks Downunder kilt
The hallmarks are so small like the one's you find on jewelry , I believe it came from an old jewellers.
Would it be a dress one or every day one ?

The antler handle suggests it is a daywear sgian dubh, but with that magnificent jewel on top I would be tempted to wear it of an evening/night as well

Here is the mark for TE that I found that could be taken as TB

And a bit of information re the TE mark, historywise.
Manufacturing jeweller, St David's Square, Edinburgh
Ebbutt started work in 1896 and died in 1921. His company continued in business until 1977 when it was bought by Hamilton & Inches. H&I continued to use the TE mark until c2000. Registration remains current.

Thanks for that but the hallmarks are certainly TB but are way too small to take photo's of similar to a hallmark inside a ring I do the believe the knife was purchased from a jewelers

I have found an auction in 2004 at Christies that has the same makers mark as you describe but year mark is 1991.

The only suggestion I can offer is to contact the Edinburgh Assay Office and see if they can shed some light on the mark. Cheers and good hunting.

Thanks Downunder kilt for your time and effort those stags at christies are rather nice aswell. You would think there would be more on the silver smith with this level of work.

In addition to Mikes great efforts in trying to track down the maker, I have discovered three more registered silversmiths from 1770 to 1805, without seeing a closer view of the hallmarks it's difficult to say if any of these makers are the right ones, but it may be interesting to follow them up.

Here is a link to the web page which includes the three TB marks -

Just found a few more here -
