Well I did it all wrong but

I still had fun. Went to New Years Eve dinner with friends wearing my new Buchanan kilt - I didn't have a jacket or vest and I didn't wear a tie and no-dang-body took my picture at the restaurant and I think I had my flashes on inside out but dadgummit I finally went out in public for the first time in a kilt and loved every minute of it.

Stopped by Mother-in-law's house for a visit and took a few crappy phone pics there:

Happy new year to all you kind folks! You've all made my 2013 better and I look forward to more of it in 2014.

And happy new year to you too, Hippie Lee, you look fine!

From my angle, I can't tell a thing about your flashes.
    Did anyone complain? No?
Were you cold without tie or jacket? No?
    Did you feel grand? Yeah?
Will you do it again? Hell yeah!!
Go out and beat those 49ers? Well, maybe not, but you get the drift.

Welcome to the club, young fella!

Well done laddie. There is only one thing wrong as far as I can see. No smile!

You took the plunge and did it, so how can you have done it wrong? Ok, so you weren't formally dressed in $1000 of regalia, ok you think you had your flashes on wrong. The kilt police didn't revoke your licence to kilt, so just be proud you did it.

I can't see anyone else in those photos with a jacket, vest, and tie, so you are dressed perfectly.

One thing you could try the next time....Did you notice through the evening that your sporran strap would get caught under your kilt apron? Did your sporran hit you uncomfortably? If you tighten up the strap just a bit and let the sporran ride up on your stomach it won't bunch up the apron and will be more comfortable when you walk.

This is not because you are doing anything wrong, just a hint from experience that you don't find in any book.

You did great HippieLee. Casual is comfortable--and classy.

Well done, sir! There is absolutely nothing wrong with "casual" and in the Florida climate, I guess it would make a lot more sense than buttoned up tight in a jacket and vest. I'll bet there were more than a few envious at the restaurant!
