Hey...What do you think?
I was just chatting with the wife about getting a kilt. I was wondering what everyone's opinion is about a good semi/formalish kilt would be. I would like to get a kilt that I could wear to weddings/ formal events. Now after saying that I would like to expand by saying that I am not looking for an $ 800 kilt....... Hopefully my wife won't read this BUT I am looking at $500 - $600 canadian too spend. Am I dreaming? can I find what I want for that little? I know this post could belong in allot of different areas but I was wondering if Bear kilts fit my kilting needs? Can I get a wool or wool blend that will be nice enough for fromal occasions? Bear please understand I mean no disrespect I am not familiar with your kilts I am positive all your kilts are NICE but nice for semi/formal events??? We often attend allot of Knights of Columbus events, family weddings, diner dances ect. ect. Where should I start looking? Please accept my lazy apologies as I am sure this info is in another posting already but come on you think I am going to look through all these postings....
Thanks Guys
Chris

I know that if you're looking for a hand-sewn traditional, Hector Russell Canada has a 13oz handsewn 8 yard kilt for $600 CAD. I know that there are other great kilt makers out there, but I thought this would be a good start if you're wanting to go more traditional than casual.

Check out Canada kilts. They are cut like a traditional kilt, yet they are made of a lightweight acrylic fabric. David has limited tartans, but from what I have seen of them, they have a really nice look to them. They are machine washable, but not machine dryable. I ordered one from him a few weeks ago, and got a kilt, sporran, and belt/buckle combo for $307 cdn. Delivery is only about 3-4 weeks.
I could not go on enought about the quality and value you get with an 8 yard Bear kilt, as this too may be an option. Bear's 8-yard will be more comfortable in the Ontario winters. You could also check out Bear's Wool kilts. The most expensive one (8 yards over a 50" waist) tops off at $550.00 cdn.
Hope this helps a bit.

Hey Chris,
No offense taken.
As Colin said above, My wool kilts are inexpensive. I am also now making traditional style kilts I'm calling Formal Cuts. They will be available with velcro or straps.
I hope to make the page for the Formal Cut kilts tonight.

Hey Chris, I don't think you can go wrong with a Berakilt Formal Cut or USAKilt Traditional in poly vis or wool. They are both excellent in workmanship and service!
I've survived DAMN near everything

There are, as yet, no pics of a formal cut Bear Kilt anywhere. There are lots of classic cut pics but as I've only made the prototype of the formal cut, the first pics will be on the formal cut page.
And, as I have posted before, Phil gets the first one.
