Maybe Rugby shirts? In my mind, the woven collar of a rugby shirt is just a little different from the knitted one of a polo, and they are usually just a little heavier. Plus, you can get the cool ones with a Saltire across the front.

I didn't even realize they made short sleeve rugby shirts! The only person I've personally known to wear rugby shirts was a buddy from the Air Force, a big, red-headed guy, and he wore long sleeves.

The short sleeved ones look pretty sharp. I'm not sure about the cool ones with the Saltires, but, if they'll keep me cooler . . .

Ahh. I'm considering those too, but I did a google image search of short sleeve rugby shirts and I like the look. They're a lot like polos but hang a little trimmer and neater and I like the collar treatment.

This site is dangerous to my wallet, giving me ideas! I see too much ebay surfing in my future.

edit: Eh, now after a quick look through ebay, I see many sellers use rugby shirt and polo shirt interchangeably. I'm not sure if they're two entirely separate things.

Coming up on 40 years kilted now, and the 'bliss point' or what seems most natural or right has been steadily evolving.

Being a piper, I'm usually wearing kilts when I'm being paid to, and a certain level of smartness is expected.

I tend to grab the same kit nearly all the time, so that kit must be what seems right or natural to me. It's a black Argyll, blue shirt, random tie (striped, often red), IOS 16oz handstitched kilt, 100 year old goathair sporran, blue or claret hose with contrasting flashes, ghillies, black Glengarry or Balmoral. I rarely wear a waistcoat, belt, kilt pin, sgian, or any other doodads.

No problem, as long as it helps. That is exactly the kind of thought process I go through. I haven't sorted out warmer weather options yet. I am inclined to go more casual, but we'll see what happens in, say, May.

I wrote the original post as a beginners level take on some of the ninja level discussions out there, notably the "Over doing it" thread. Or, alternatively, a smart but casual look at the same problem.
