Isaac, I see you did not post this in the Advice forum, but please allow me to offer some anyway. A jacket cut for the kilt is a good idea. If your present circumstances do not allow for purchasing a new one, maybe your handy wife can help you convert an old suit coat. Nobody is going to die or to arrest you for wearing a saxon-length jacket with your kilt, but you are denying people the pleasure of seeing your pleats. Think of them.

Thank you for the response and advice! I actually have a nice, vintage, Argyll jacket coming en route from Scotland that I hope to see this week! I plan on also getting another or re-tailoring some in the future. Although my wife is a fine knitter, I am the one who sews.

I am the one that does the knitting a sewing in the house. Your hose are more than just fine. It took me quite a while to do mine. The pattern is a great one and Mrs. Newsome did us all a favor by bringing it to the fore. Your argyle vest is great. I'd like a duplicate. You should get hold of HHastings as he instructs and is kilted too.

Here is day three and back in the kilt. Wearing this more, I am seeing the need for more accessories. I love my sporran (and the pre-ban sealskin) which is versatile, but would like another. I have 3 pairs of hose and 3 different flashes which are handy, but these old off-white hose are just shabby looking and need replacing. I will need to sweet talk my good wife and see if she would knit me a pair of proper solid color hose. Otherwise, a proper jacket or two and some nicer waistcoats are on the list if I am to wear this more! (oh yes, and the temperature outside this morning was -2 F).

Nice look. Your tie works well with the kilt.
Those shoes look comfortable. They remind me of a pair of trail runners I had (until I wore them out.)

Day four... it is the last day with students of the week, essentially making it a "Casual Friday" in spite of being only Thurs. I was going to dress historic (I AM a history teacher) but I feel asleep early with the kids and did not finish my tartan waistcoat last night. Anyway, I decided to go rather casual with the kilt today instead. It was a nice balmy -11F on the thermometer this morning with a brisk wind ("Windchills" at -35F).
