I often wear boots with my kilts. I have a pair of these, as well as a pair of hiking boots. And usually just a pair of tube socks.

I have a friend that often wears canvas shoes with his kilts though. I don't like the look so much. I find wearing something that comes up a little higher, especially when not wearing traditional hose, works best.

Whatever you feel comfortable in though! That's what matters most.

I've worn sneakers (New Balance specifically cause I have very wide feet) with my kilts a few times when I was going with a causal style & doing a lot of walking . Doesn't look right but form follows function . I go with sneakers that are not covered in crazy bright colors & such - they'd distract from the kilt .

When it's hot, which is not that often in this part of the world, I'll wear leather sandals without socks, going for practicality and comfort over style. Only had one person comment - a passing lady who said: "you should be wearing socks". I said I was happier wearing my kilt and her husband told her it was none of her business!
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
