Many years ago, when I was stationed in Greece, I met two tourists from Italy, both fluent in English, and a young guy from Scotland. He was in the Army and I was in the US Air Force and we chatted about various things. Evidently his accent baffled the Italians. One of them looked back and forth then asked me, "You can understand him?"

I had to admit I could only get about 85 percent.

But, you're not alone. I have a friend from North Carolina who complains she can't get Siri to understand her southern American accent!

The voice recognition systems in cars are a problem; the Kia range of cars are terrible, to the extent it is possible to see people shouting at and hitting their cars while trying to make a phone call using the in-car system, I know its not just me, I have proof. Trying to phone home, or as the nice Kia lady says "hyoooouummmmm" is particularly frustrating. She does not recognise the following:SevenNineEleven - of course she doesn'tA good number of my common contacts including for some reason "head office" are impossible for her to understand. I have given up programming site names into my phone book, she just says "cancel" to names such as Novar, Kilbraur Ford is better - just. That was a bit of an old geezer rant, wasn't it.
My Nissan, made for the American market, can't understand my fairly standard American accent. And I enunciate rather nicely. I don't even try anymore.
