I could not see a comment by a Henry, but I think I also mentioned the difficulty with the first pleat.
This is because you want to hide any joining seam between the new apron and the rest of the kilt. That seam gets hidden on the first pleat and it will depend how that pleat has been constructed, whether there is a reverse pleat and so on, as to how you hide the seam. That means undoing quite a bit of the hidden structure around the apron to fix with the replacement cloth. Not something to attempt unless you are competent with a needle and thread - so I think you are wise to find a seamstress/tailor.
