Sorry I completely neglected mentioning what a tremendous impact joining X Marks the Scot had! The photos and discussion of so many elegantly dressed people. Tattersall shirts and shooting socks and Kingussie pleats: it was all new to me.
There's been no bigger influence, when I think about it.
Another big influence has always been the dress of the top bands in the Pipe Band scene, capped off when I attended the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow in 2004 and 2007.

I couldn't agree more, Richard! Not only have I been influenced by certain members/threads on XMTS, but I have also formed many wonderful friendships with members outside of the forum context. XMTS is truly a remarkable place and I feel honoured and ever so humbled to be a part of the great rabble. ![Very Happy](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

You're right: I forgot to mention it
Not sure how classic the gentleman looks?

Agreed on joining xmarks!
I also neglected to mention the impact of John Allen Cameron and his television appearances on my perception of the kilt. He was a big deal when I was a young child and was a highly venerated tradition bearer and performer. I've edited my original response on page 1 and included some photos and a video of this talented kilted Cape Bretoner who was known as "Canada's godfather of Celtic Music". May he rest in peace.

Sorry, my mistake but it is a great photo and I especially like the look.

I like traditional tartans in contemporary ways. As a cool young dude... har har... I prefer the look of cool young(ish) dudes in kilts.

I recently started training for an Ironman and have lost a fair amount of weight as a result, so lately I prefer to choose options that show off my flat stomach (took a lot of hard work so it's a point of pride for me ). My wife isn't totally sold on the boots. She thinks they're going to get me into a fight one day because she thinks they're "sh!t-disturbing" boots. They're a little punk I suppose but I'm okay with that. Most times I just go with hose and hiking boots/shoes but sometimes I pull these bad-boys out.

The "One Kilt -- Ten Looks" thread was a real influence. That having been said
I'm gradually developing my own sense of what does and doesn't work.
I've been consistently busking on Saturdays kilted and as the weather has
changed the kilts and accessories have also changed.
When it's around 15 deg C a heavyweight 8 yd kilt with an Crail jacket and a
skivvy are fine -- but tomorrow is due to hit 40 and likely to be around 30-35
when I'm playing -- I'll probably do a USA casual and a T shirt -- maybe with
cotton hose, maybe with short or pushed down socks.
I've a couple of "Jacobite" shirts that I wear on occasion -- they *are* a bit
theatrical, but that's OK for what I'm doing. And anyway, the MacGregors were
definitely part of the rising, so there's an historical argument for it in any case.
X-Marks has definitely shaped my choices and I certainly appreciate the
information and advice (with illustrations) that I've got here.
So, trying to stay (somewhat) close to the concept of CHCD while still
having a bit of personal style/flair is where it's at for me.

Two thumbs up on the boots, and you can tell the wife not to worry. 20+ years of wearing 20 eye Docs and I haven't managed to get into a fight yet, even back when I was younger and would actually try.

I dig this style and I think I mentioned that it is pretty much how I dressed on stage for almost a decade fronting a high energy Celtic band. I try to dress appropriately for the given occasion, so at Scottish cultural events or formal dinners or balls I go more traditional. If I was off to a Mudmen concert though, I'd probably sport something similar.

Fair enough. Formal events are a rare occasion for me. I do dress more professional when at school. When kilted at school I usually go with a dress shirt and cardigan or pullover with a bow-tie.
