I've been running a Kilt Kit for about 6 years. As somebody who usually carries only kilts and their accessories on trips, I've been very pleased with the system.

I have one of the Kilt Kit garment bags. I like it a lot (though I do prefer a different hanger.)

I have one of the bags of which you speak, and I never use it. the hangers are a nifty idea with some nice features, but two fatal weakness IMHO---one, at a critical point where the cross bar inserts there is too little wood to handled some of the stresses, and two, thy have thickness and a slight bow to them making them from to cracking like a taco shell under pressure. I have broken three hangers in regular use the first couple times I took it out. Granted, the company is pretty good about replacing the hangers, if it is soon after you buy them at least. I am also not quite the fan of the three layer six clamp kilt hanger design myself, although others have lauded it loudly at time.
I am a convert to the Skyroll of which Steve speaks, and have one of each variety, shoulder bag and the larger rolling wheeled bag. I took 3 tanks to Scotland with me in the shoulder version, along with hose, bonnets, belts and sporrans----all things kilt went in that bag as carry on save a couple of kilt pins and sgian dhub. The rolling version is bigger and can hold somewhat more gear--I typically use it on business trips where I must go suited for more than one day, or if I am going somewhere I will be meeting with the local kilties for either a formal or informal gathering or event. When I use these for travel I typically take my kilts and jackets/waistcoats off their hangers and lay them flat in the garment bag part, staggering the bulky parts so there is not too much thickness at any one point, then lay out the garment bag flat on the floor and roll the central hardshell portion inside the garment bag, before attaching the straps and clasps. Since I use flat kilt hangers from Scotweb I simply put them inside the hardshell with the rest of my kit.
Keep your eyes open for a buy one get one free sale at MensWearhouse stores or online, and instead of the $199 price tag for the roller you can get two, and give one as a gift or sell it off to one of your mates who desires one for himself.
