Nice bonnet, Padre. I remember the thread you are talking about, but I cannot find it either. Some people cut them off, as davidlpope said. You could tie them in a neat bow, and then sew it so you don't have to bother with it again. Some people leave them loose, but the wind can whip them into your face. I keep mine tied in a bow but have not sewn it yet.
