The Scottish Kilt Shop is not actually based in Maryland. They have a post office box there. They also have a post office box in England where they say all returns are supposed to be sent to. This allows them to list the US as a business address.

But they are actually based in Sailkot Pakistan. That is where the products are made and shipped from.

If you call them you will get through to a cell phone in Pakistan.

Lots of great vendors here, including the above poster. ALWAYS buy from someone who is actually making the kilt for you....middlemen, jobbers, "I can get it for you cheaper" will almost always result in grief.

You can have any two of price, quality, or service.

Welcome to the forum that can save you money and grief....you are most wise to ask and check things out.

Just me, but I would certainly dispute "quality" for a Stillwater kilt. For sure price and service. Not a put down, just put a Stillwater kilt next to a 16 ounce hand sewn tank...no contest. Your mileage may vary.

The USA Kilts Casual is officially the cheapest kilt I'd buy new... There are others that I would pick up if they are dirt cheap, but I have been burned by lesser kilts.

A very interesting conversation this and very useful to me. Whilst being on this website I have always wondered how kilts from various makers from outwith Scotland, and even some within these shores too, paricularly those kilt makers in North America, are seen and I suppose ultimately judged by those who have first hand knowledge of such things. I find Ron's comments thought provoking. I am not criticising anyone, I have absolutely no need too, but when members talk about this kiltmaker, that kiltmaker and the others, prices, styles, fabrics etc,etc I find that I have little understanding of what is being discussed. Service I can relate to, customer satisfaction I understand, the rest, without seeing, touching and perhaps even wearing the garment(no, pictures do not tell the full story) I find it difficult to make sensible thoughts one way or another. Yes this is a helpful thread to me. Thankyou.

Along with this thread, has anyone bought a kilt from Scotweb (one of the advertisers)? I am thinking of buying my second kilt this summer and may try them out as their price was best for a 5 yard 16 oz. (Still 300 USD for the kilt in the weight I want.)

Chaps , I have purchased one 8 yd kilt from Scotweb in 16 oz fabric and was very pleased . The quality was superb . I have bought tartan fabric from them as well and have no complaints .

I have also purchased kilts and other products from several of the companies that advertise here and have never been disappointed . I think you will be in good hands with any of the folks that advertise here .

Good luck on your new kilt !

    Cheers , Mike
