I have to agree with Richard and Kyle regarding dicing. Most likely it is purely decorative and a lot of "backronism" has cropped up.

Your Glengarry looks sharp, Isaac. Wear it in good health, my friend.

Well, I can't speak for the rabble -- as if anyone could -- but personally I like the Glengarry, and I think you wear it well.

I will admit to a bit of personal bias; I spend a good bit of my time in various uniforms, and don't have any issue with military-inspired civilian clothing. I do think the Glen looks a bit more military than a Balmoral, but only in the way that a Jeep Wrangler looks more military than a passenger car, and in any event I don't think that's a bad thing as long as you carry off the look well (which you do).

If you like it -- wear it!

Isaac: First, you don't look "googly-eyed". Your expression is direct, even matter-of-fact. That's a good thing. Your mouth is a bit grim - almost as if you're about to say something unpleasant, or at least unwelcome.

As for your glengarry, it looks fine. Whether you wear it, or not, with "civvie wear" is entirely up to you. Some folks, like me, will think it looks great. Others will think, as you have already read, that it would be more appropriate with a uniform. The vast majority will just think it is some kind of Scottish hat, that they have seen before, or some other foreign head covering. If you like the look, by all means wear it, ... and post the pics.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Hey Isaac,I am an ex-squaddie and I still wear lots of military items of clothing because I love the look and the quality.
Depending on my outfit,I rotate between an army Tam o' Shanter and one of my flat caps,I have however recently acquired a diced Glengarry and in my personal opinion it looks very smart and definitely adds "Swag".
You wear it well,so if you feel comfortable with it add some swag!
