Hats
Just in case anyone is desperately trying to find somewhere to buy hats (not scottish nor kilt related) from, I just had an excellent buying experience with these people:-
http://www.hatsandcaps.co.uk/
They seem to belie the oft pronounced statement (by Ron Macdonald (Riverkilt)) that you can only have two of price, service and quality. With this company I managed all three!
I'll end by heartilly recommending them even though they do not sell scottish hats, they're just good hatters, good business men/women, in fact good people, too!

Quick service, too, Chas. Placed my first order on a Monday evening and had the hat on my head Friday afternoon!

I generally prefer to haunt ebay and buy old fedoras and vintage hats. The blocks on fedoras today are nothing like they were in the past.

I have an Ozy acubra hat that the stock men use. its a little like a cowboy hat but from OZ I used to be a stock man in the blue mountains in Ox when I was young and I like it / doesn't really go with a kilt but I don't care I#ll were what I like.

That may be so, but these days their fedoras are crush proof, waterproof and stain resistant, which the old and vintage hats that you find on ebay are not!

That's because they are sprayed with too much stiffener to keep their shape because most people can't re-bash the shape. This makes it harder if not impossible to fix. They are also mostly wool instead of spun fur. This makes them non-customizable to your preferred bash.
The more expensive hats by Stetson and the like are not crush proof. If they get sat on they will lose their shape until they are re-bashed.
My Adam's summer weight hats I can crush them all I want and just re-bash the shape without using steam. The rest generally just add a little steam and voila!
The old hats can also be sprayed to be stain and water resistant, if they don't already have that.
Remember those "new inventions" have been around since the late 1940's.

Great link David, thanks for posting, sadly a tad too late as my SO bought me a Tilley hat for my birthday earlier in the year, but you can never have too many hats!
Friends stay in touch on FB simon Taylor-dando
Best regards

I have one of these:

It's a Stetson crushable trilby, and it's great!
Edited to add the link
