Thanks, AussieDon. Those are very enlightening photos. You read a lot of negative comments on here about Pakastani products, but the pictures and your description help clarify the quality differences.

I have two kilts, both PV which I bought from the same company. I am very happy with both of them. Like the OP, I do not have a lot of money at the moment, so am unable to have a 100% wool kilt made for me (although that is the dream).

In terms of comfort and feel, I have had no complaints with either of the kilts I've bought from HOS. I am about to buy a third one from them, as their deliveries are prompt, the returns policy if you're not happy with the product is excellent and the reply to email questions extremely quickly.

I'd either save my pennies for 16oz wool or order one of Rocky's casuals/semi-traditionals.
More money but a better fit, better quality.
Just my tuppence.
You can't beat heavy wool, though.
What are you chaps doing that you're worried about damading your kilts?! I would just choose a more activity-appropriate garment rather than risk my kilt in those situations.

I believe that he ships worldwide...and he'd still be a better deal when you factor in shipping and the fact that every single kilt that he makes from his Casuals (entry level) to his 8-yard model (full monty) are made-to-measure.
I own a Holyrood casual and a Robertson Hunting 5-yard. Love 'em. Hard to beat the price and quality.
Riverkilt (Ron MacDonald) has a saying that goes something like this, "You can have two of each: price, quality, or good customer service."
Rocky is an exception to this. You get all three. That's why many here of us are repeat customers.
