Polished off my long ignored bottle of Bendronach and with heartwrenching guilt tossed the bottle and tin into the recycling bin.
Now the decision--Since there is more room for a new bottle in the warchest should I buy something different, another Bendronach, or as my wife wishes work harder on making more room in the cupboard for all my overflow bottles in the downstairs annex bar cabinet (usually reserved for duplicate bottles and other non scotches.
HMmmm. I still have my eye on that Glenmorangie Eleanta and will be close enough to Virginia in a couple weeks to pick up a bottle there. What to do, what to do, what to do? Advice and suggestions are welcome but please do not be offended if it is not followed, as I do have an independent mind.

Jeff: I second Allen's "Old Pulteney 12" recommendation. It's a briny malt, not unlike the Obans, and truly excellent. The 17 is even better, but the 21 is a bit too briny (to me). Thus, I have settled on the 17 for my stable.
By the way, I am in the market for a bottle of Aberlour a'bunadh - a malt you recommended some time ago. Based on your endorsement I bought a bottle and it immediately became my favorite sherry-finished malt - even better (to me) than Glenmorangie La Santa or Cragganmore Distillers Edition. It's currently available at DrinkUpNY, but I need to shop around a bit.

I fell in love with it even before I tasted it, because I toured the distillery and tasted one of the single cask versions of their (at that time) 16 year old sherry casked whiskies, and even got to fill, label, cork and box a bottle myself to bring home, so I am listed on their books as an official "bottler"-----literally had to number my own bottle by hand with a pen, then sign it into their inventory before they could then sell it to me, my bottle, via the gift shop. Still have 3/4 of that one on the shelf. Taste is nearly identical to the A'bunadh, several bottles of which have passed through my hands over the last few years, except for that extra added finish that lingers from knowing you just drank from a one of a kind bottle that you filled from the cask yourself. Nothing better than a great dram with an even better memory.
I shall keep my eye out for it here and apprise ye of the price when I find it, to see if shipping it might save you at least a little bit.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!
It's May 5th, a minor holiday in Mexico, but one of the, many, drinking holidays here in the USA. So I've been drinking cerveza this morning.

Just got home from the first day of the new school term. For me it's Highland Park 12.

Jeff: Becoming an "official bottler" must have been fun. Would love to do that sometime, but I would probably never open the bottle. They'd have to put it in my coffin.
I generally put a little water in my A'bunadh, mostly to cut the alcohol burn, or even drink it on the rocks. To me it has a variety of rich flavors dominated by the sherry in the finish. It's a great after-dinner malt.
DrinkUpNY wants $81 for it, and then there's the shipping. It used to be free, if you bought at least $100 worth of booze, but now it is very expensive. So please, by all means, if you find a better buy please let me (us) know.
John
