Tonight I'm at a rock showcase for Canadian Music Week. Best whisky here is Glenlivet 18 so that's my dram with Guiness in between so I don't overdo it.

Hey everyone,
I don't usually drink, but when I do I like Maker's Mark Kentucky bourbon. Otherwise, it's just a double espresso with cream or some other version of coffee--doesn't matter to me.

Maker's Mark is okay, but I REALLY like 1792 Ridgemont Reserve. Um, um, good!

I attended an excellent dinner last night at the Mombo Restaurant in Portsmouth, NH where each course was prepared with Laphroaig whisky. Of course we also had several varieties of Laphroaig to compliment the dinner including their Triple Wood which is one of my favorites and their An Cuan Mor which was wonderful but unfortunately only available in duty free shops. Laproaig Ambassador Simon Brooking (on the right) was on hand to provide a bit of whisky education and levity. A truly memorable evening!

When my wife and I were in Newtonmore, Scotland I found Jack Daniel old no. 7 on the very far end of the top shelf. I prefer Makers Mark! Best regards and cheers Mattie

Well, there's some Lagavulin up there which is my absolute favourite Scotch.
I've discovered that Canada actually can boast two good whiskies (with apologies to those who think there are more than two and a nod to those who are surprised there are all of two). We've been a bit hampered by a lack of standards for what constitutes a Canadian whiskey, hence any old thing that would fit in the bottle was our sad lot in life for far too long.
But 40 Creek has a nice one in their Barrel Reserve, and by far the best all-rye I've ever tasted is Lot 40.
Aside from that, Calvados Morin reminds me of the best hausgemacht apple brandies of my youth.

There's Canadian whisky (Rye) and then there's Canadian single malt whisky. If you like scotch, try Glen Breton Rare or Glen Breton Battle of the Glens. While not technically Scotch due to it's not being distilled in Scotland, we all know what it is.

In the Western North Carolina Highlands, The Blue Ridge Distilling Company is producing Defiant.

American Single Malt Whisky. We had a bottle from Cask #0003. It's not Scotch, of course, because it is not distilled in Scotland, and also not aged for 3 years (the company is not yet 3 years old). With a deep, amber color and a rich vanilla aroma, it burns going down and never stops burning. It is unabashedly bold and aggressive, hence its name, Defiant.

They sell it half-empty like that?
