Alex, consider storing the extra carpeting if you possibly can. After many years we had an indecent which required replacing a portion of our carpet. The particular material was no longer made and even if it were, a new lot might not have matched. The fitters were able to make an undetectable repair using what had been in storage all those years.

The Royal Hotel in Portree had tartan carpeting on the ground floor. It was overwhelming.

Three things:
1) Walkerk dispenses wise advice! Have been there before.
2) This is a rare occasion for me...a conversation about carpetting (bonus: tied to tartan).

The Buchanan Arms in Drymen was famous for its hall carpeting. Although I think after an evening of hard drinking it might have been difficult to navigate.
I've heard that it is gone now though.

Athough I prefer the complete package in my favorite room.
