    That's because they are sprayed with too much stiffener to keep their shape because most people can't re-bash the shape. This makes it harder if not impossible to fix. They are also mostly wool instead of spun fur. This makes them non-customizable to your preferred bash.

    The more expensive hats by Stetson and the like are not crush proof. If they get sat on they will lose their shape until they are re-bashed.

    My Adam's summer weight hats I can crush them all I want and just re-bash the shape without using steam. The rest generally just add a little steam and voila!

    The old hats can also be sprayed to be stain and water resistant, if they don't already have that.

    Remember those "new inventions" have been around since the late 1940's.

    Great link David, thanks for posting, sadly a tad too late as my SO bought me a Tilley hat for my birthday earlier in the year, but you can never have too many hats!
