And did anyone else notice the overwhelming predominance of black kilt hose on the band members? The only white hose I can recall seeing were on the Glasgow Skye Assn band members. Otherwise, if it wasn't black it was some other non-white color.
And quite a lot of colored shirts, too. It wasn't that many years ago that white would have been universal in both cases.
Cheers,

sydnie7 finally checking in with a few small group photos! It was good to meet (or get reacquainted with) all of you, thanks for taking the time to swing by the Clan D tent. Richard, sorry we missed you, I kept looking for you among the band groups we passed. And I didn't even know Alan was coming down to these Games or I'd have hunted him down! Should have done more walking around in the cool of Saturday -- when the sun came out Sunday it just got too warm for me to wander.
I do hope I've attached the correct names to faces below (what names I can recall/were written down for me. . . names fly through my head from ear to ear without ever coming to rest!).
sydnie7, Bob (bigdad1), Jim (chaps) and his lady

Elizabeth, George and his lady, chaps and the Mrs. again, Bob and Sydnie again

Elizabeth and Julie (AcuteEnigma). Elizabeth pointed out that her camo kilt is by Stumptown, for those who have asked about that brand.

Jan and David (calico) with Tom (tomak) and the ever-present Sydnie and Bob

Two pics from Sunday's Memorial Day presentation of colors and recognition of veterans

Sydnie,
Thanks for the photos. My lady's name is Wendy. It was good to meet you and finally meet in person some folks from the great rabble. We had a great time and were pleasantly surprised that military got in for free.

Black is the new white. Glasgow Skye didn't get the memo. (Just kidding.)
Starting in the 1980s a new fashion swept the pipe band scene: everything in the uniform black and white, with hose being a stark pure white.
In the Grade One at the Worlds every single band would be wearing the same kit: Glengarry, jacket, necktie, bagcover, sporran, and flashes black; shirt and hose white; bagpipe cords having the only variety, being black, white, or black & white mingled (say it ain't so).
Then a couple years ago the world's top bands began dumping white hose and going to anything BUT white.
At the Worlds nearly every top band is wearing black, navy blue, or charcoal grey hose. A few bands are hanging on to the old white hose.
I think Glasgow Skye Association, with their reproduction/weathered kilts and brown tweed vests, would be better off with oatmeal hose and offwhite or pale blue shirts. The glaring white of shirt and hose is at odd variance with the lovely earth tones of waistcoat and kilt.
