Ardalanish Isle of Mull Weavers
Anyone know about the status of Ardalanish mill? They have for a few weeks now been unresponsive to emails. Would love to get a sample of a few their tweeds. Any one on the Isle of Mull?

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question about Ardalanish. I spent a lovely week in Bunessan a few years ago and visited Ardalanish twice during our stay. The tweeds were incredible and all from sheep they had raised on the croft. They also sold their own beef, which was some of the very best I have ever tasted.
That was before the founders and original owners "retired" and sold the business on to someone else. I don't know anything about the new owners or their business model.
However, I can recommend you to Roger and Andrea at the Isle of Skye Weavers in Glendale in the north end of the island. They both worked at Ardalanish for many years and went out on their own, with Bob Ryan's (founder of Ardalanish) support and encouragement. They are very genuine people and their tweeds are equal in quality to the best in the business. I would not hesitate to recommend them you for a moment. You can find them here:

I know XMarks member "Grizzled Ian" got some tweed from them earlier this year, so as of January they were still in business. I had no response to emails late last year either, and their website was not working correctly about the same time. I'd consider just giving them a call, if it's a pressing issue.
Another thought; would it be peak shearing/weaving time in that part of the world, so perhaps admin work is running behind schedule?
Please let us know of any updates, I've got my eye on one of their tweeds for future projects, and would hate to hear they'd gone under.
Cheers,
Cameron

Sad news if Ardalanish are no longer operating - let's hope there is a temporary or seasonal reason for their silence. I too am waiting for a response to a query I emailed them a couple of months ago.
I bought two pieces of material from them just over a year ago. They have both been tailored into articles of clothing, and the weather is just about cool enough to wear them for the camera.
Skye Weavers' tweed offerings appear to include fewer weaving styles in a narrower range of colours than those of Ardalanish, but they are very handsome for all that.

Interesting development. I just recieved the swatches in the mail that I requested a few weeks ago. Never a reply, just arrived without notice. Pleasant surprise.
